Smarter analytics in the age of AI – for humans who still ask why.

Welcome to Dear Analyst

đź‘‹ Who I Am

I’m Katya – data leader, lifelong analyst, and mother to a toddler with more curiosity (and energy) than most startup teams combined. I’ve spent the last decade deep in the world of dashboards, SQL, A/B tests, and strategic “can-you-run-this-by-EOD” requests.

I’ve led teams, built frameworks, and wrestled with the eternal tension between “fast” and “thoughtful.” I take my work seriously – but never myself too seriously.

Dear Analyst was born from a simple idea:

Modern analytics should be smarter, faster, and a whole lot more human.

We don’t need more tools that confuse us or dashboards no one opens. We need real insights, sharp thinking, and workflows that actually help — especially when you’re juggling meetings, Slack, strategy, and maybe a toddler climbing your chair.

This blog is a space to share the tools, systems, and perspectives that help me do better work — and stay sane doing it.

The Questions We’re Really Asking

Can’t I just ask ChatGPT to write the right SQL, understand our data warehouse, and figure out the business logic that lives in a few Notion docs and someone’s head?

And while it’s at it, can’t it export the data, analyze it beautifully in Excel, explain the results in plain English, and build a dashboard the team actually uses?

Oh, and ideally – pick up my daughter from childcare and explain to the CEO why AI still can’t do all of this on its own?

My Curiosity (and Yours Too)

Like many of you, I’m figuring out what it means to stay relevant in the age of AI – not by fearing it, but by leaning in with curiosity. I want to know how these tools can make my work more efficient, my thinking sharper, and my role as an analyst and data leader even more impactful.

So if you’re navigating the same questions, how to stay sharp, build smarter, and still get out the door for daycare pickup, you’re in the right place.
